Several older women who live in Zhovty Vody, Ukraine, have been doing needlework in the winter time. After they showed us their handiwork, we asked if they could create challah covers, matzah covers and other types of Judaica, which Action for Post-Soviet Jewry could sell for them in the U.S. They quickly set about learning new designs and Hebrew, while incorporating their original floral designs.
We provide the materials - fabric, thread and trimming - which they purchase locally and make into wonderful, colorful items. Funds from the sale of their work go back to this community to help them and others there who are living on woefully inadequate pensions. Action for Post-Soviet Jewry has several dozen pieces of their handwork available for sale.
Below are a few of their designs.
All funds from the sale of these and other items go to the Adopt-a-Bubbe program and range from $50 to whatever you would like to donate. Interested in a purchase? Contact our office at (781)893-2331 or ActionPSJ@aol.com.
