UKRAINE UPDATE Feb 26
Action-PSJ will be sending regular updates on the situation in Ukraine. Some of these, will be briefings from our coordinators and partners on the ground there. Others will be news and articles that we feel are important to share. These updates will help us understand how dire the situation there is and the critical importance of the aid that you make possible. Please give now. Give regularly. The need is now. Together we can save lives now.
ACTION-PSJ IN ACTION:
Your generosity helps us do more. Thank you for your support!
Action-PSJ started sending emergency financial grants to every Community Care Coordinator. The process is tedious; we can only send a few wires each day. What used to be instant transactions now can take a few days. The Coordinators have to wait in long lines to receive the funds. The importance of each of them having a small discretionary budget to meet unexpected needs during this unimaginable crisis is crucial. Most urgent is for all the Coordinators and pensioners to know they have support. Even if the support is periodically and in small amounts.
READ ABOUT THE EFFORTS OF OUR PARTNERS IN KISHINEV, MOLDOVA and how they are helping UMAN. Both are communities Action-PSJ partners with and support. Now one is helping the other. Rabbi Zushe Abelsky from Kishinev is a long-time partner with Action-PSJ. He shared how much his community is doing to help provide a safe space for Jews fleeing Ukraine.
Most of the Jews of the Ukrainian city of Uman, which was targeted by Russian shelling due to the presence of weapons depots in the area, were evacuated by Hatzalah Ukraine to Moldova on Thursday and Friday. The Jews were taken to the Jewish community center in Kishinev (also known as Chișinău), the capital of Moldova.
