Greetings: Action-PSJ work continues IN Ukraine. Our primary focus continues to be assisting elderly Jewish Ukrainians. Bravely, all of our network of volunteer coordinators have stayed in Ukraine. They face unimaginable challenges to ensure their own and their family's well-being while living through a war. They still take time to check-in and care for our elders. While they remain in Ukraine, so do we; committed to supporting them and the elders they serve. Please see our regularly updated Frequently Asked Questions to see what Action-PSJ is doing and how.
Your generosity and support help us do this work.
Mariupol Update
The news and images coming out of Mariupol are some of the most difficult and disturbing to view. And yet it is essential to bear witness and continue to be aware of the atrocities unfolding. (See below ways to help to contact your legislators and keep the pressure on for safe humanitarian aid corridors and this article .)
With much relief, I can share that after months of no communication, we finally heard from our volunteer community coordinator in Mariupol. She was able to evacuate. It has taken her a few days to get to a relatively safe city in Ukraine. We hope to hear in the next few days more details about the fate of the elderly we support. She does believe some were able to be evacuated.
For those of you who use Whats App as a means of communication, you know you can see when someone was active as there is an update under their phone number that says: “last seen today at XXXX.” For the last few weeks, there has been no message under our coordinator’s phone number. It was just blank. You can only imagine the tears of relief when that message reappeared.
Purim in Dnipro:
Rabbi Kaminezki led the Purim megillah reading at the Golden Rose Synagogue in Dnipro and it was broadcast virtually for all to see. A powerful and inspiring experience to see a thriving Jewish community in the middle of war. Especially since I heard that Dnipro had an air raid warning during the day. You can see the links below for the recordings:
You Can Help Donate and encourage your family and friends to donate- we need to be prepared for any and all needs both now and in the long term.
Shop for Action-PSJ's emergency supply list. As needs emerge we add items. We have been asked to create and send activity kits for children and the elderly. This would make a great family or community project.
Reach out to your legislators . See this campaign from the Jewish Federation and be sure to mention the need for an immediate cease-fire and SAFE Humanitarian Aid corridors. Continue to advocate that the home-bound elderly are included in evacuation plans.
