Greetings: Action-PSJ work continues IN Ukraine. Our primary focus continues to be assisting elderly Jewish Ukrainians. Bravely, all of our network of volunteer coordinators have stayed in Ukraine. They face unimaginable challenges to ensure their own and their family's well-being while living through a war. They still take time to check-in and care for our elders. While they remain in Ukraine, so do we; committed to supporting them and the elders they serve. Please see our regularly updated Frequently Asked Questions to see what Action-PSJ is doing and how.
Your generosity and support help us do this work.
Join JFS of Metrowest and other Metrowest community partners on March 30th, 7:30pm to get the latest updates on the current situation in Ukraine and how community members can help.
Speakers include JFS CEO Lino Covarrubias, Executive Director of the Action for Post-Soviet Jewry Debbie Kardon, Center Makor President and CEO Vladimir Foygelman, and Director of the Shapiro Foundation Larry Tobin.
Last week we were able to move the needle on several projects we initiated to meet emergency and urgent needs.
The first boxes of humanitarian aid arrived in Lviv! They are going to our partner in Lviv, who turned his pre-war soup kitchen into a refugee center.
We expect the boxes to filter in regularly and are working to transport some to our partners in Dnipro.
The satellite phones have also arrived in Lviv and will start their journey to Dnipro. With support from CJP , we bought enough satellite phones for all the leaders of the Boston-Dnipro partnership to have one. These military-grade phones will ensure an open line of communication with the leaders of six Jewish organizations in Dnipro if cell and internet services are unavailable.
Thanks to our partnership with Center Makor, we now have designated storage and workspace to process, pack and get ready to ship all the items many of you and your friends and family generously donate. Center Makor is donating space to us to do this vital work.
The first round of temples, day schools, and more have participated in programs to learn and do about the war in Ukraine. Over 1000 soup bags and activity kits are ready to be shipped!
We started training volunteer groups of Russian-speaking volunteers who will start this week to make check-in calls to the elderly Action-PSJ supports in Ukraine. More to come about this grassroots-person-to-person support in an upcoming blog.
We started sending regular direct financial support to the 250+ elderly and their families Action-PSJ supports. We worry their meager pensions may stop or be interrupted by war. Inflation has already seen prices skyrocketing threefold. Your generosity will help us send money every month. This extra support provides a little more security during the instability of wartime.
We are so grateful to all our partner organizations and volunteers who worked to make this possible.
You Can Help Donate and encourage your family and friends to donate- we need to be prepared for any and all needs both now and in the long term.
Shop for Action-PSJ's emergency supply list. As needs emerge we add items. We have been asked to create and send activity kits for children and the elderly. This would make a great family or community project.
Reach out to your legislators . See this campaign from the Jewish Federation and be sure to mention the need for an immediate cease-fire and SAFE Humanitarian Aid corridors. Continue to advocate that the home-bound elderly are included in evacuation plans.
