Valeria is Getting Married / ולריה מתחתנת
Fiction, 2022, Israel/Ukraine, 76 minRussian, English and Hebrew with English subtitles
Michal Vinik (Writer/Director)
Massachusetts Premiere
Christina, a Ukrainian mail-order bride in a seemingly happy marriage, is overjoyed when her husband, an Israeli marriage broker, arranges a match for his wife’s beloved sister, Valeria. But Valeria is apprehensive at the prospect of spending the rest of her life with someone she’s met only twice over video. Her apprehension grows after meeting her overly eager betrothed, and she realizes he’s not the man she’d hoped to find. Unfolding over the course of a day, Valeria Is Getting Married tests the contours of identity, obligation, and the expectations we inevitably attach to love.
Log line: Following her sister Christina’s example, Valeria arrives in Israel from Ukraine to meet the man she is to marry through an arrangement brokered online. But unlike Christina, Valeria has her doubts.
